Essay and Interview Preparation - Why It Matters
The essay and school interview are critical parts of the private school and college application process. The essay and interview are how schools get to know the student personally, either through the student's writing or through meeting virtually or in person. Additionally, the interview is a chance for the student to get to know more about the school. Though grades, curriculum, and test scores carry the strongest weight, the interview and essay can have a critical impact on a student's chances for admission.
This is especially important for students who are "on the bubble" or precariously balanced between the chances of being admitted to or rejected from a school. In these cases, a compelling essay or an outstanding interview can tip the balance in favor of an otherwise uncertain applicant. However, it is important to note that the essay and interview are not only important to students on the borderline. Private school and college admissions are becoming increasingly competitive, and even the most qualified students must be prepared to compete on a more elite playing field. Essay and interview preparation can be the final piece of the puzzle for a well-rounded applicant.

Essay Help
Every school wants to know more about the student and hear his or her individual voice through the personal essay. Climbing Ivy will help assess your student's application essay and work with your student to make sure his or her personality shines through.
How It Works:
The tutor and student will meet to brainstorm potential essay topics and create a general outline. It will be up to the student to write the initial essay draft on his or her own. After the first draft is completed, the student will meet with the tutor and review areas of improvement. A second draft will be completed and given a final review by the tutor to give it the final polish.
Please note: The purpose of working with a tutor is to provide guidance and a fresh set of eyes in reviewing the essay. The tutor will NOT write or compose the student's essay in any way. It is the tutor's job to help guide the student to a final, polished essay. It is the student's job to brainstorm, create, and compose the essay content.
